Clinical Review of the Acute Appendicitis in Patients Over the Age of 60

Abstract
|
|
|
This report is a clinical preview of 49 acute appendicitis patients over the age of 60 which was treated in the department of general surgery, Seoul Red Cross Hospital, from May 1972 to April 1976.
The result was summarized as follow;
1. The overall percentage of the patients over the age of 60 were about 5.3%.
2. ¢¥The male to female ratio was 1: 4. 2.
3. The operative findings were classified as below
a. Acute-or gangrenous appendicitis without perforation (13 pts)
b. Acute appendicitis with perforation (36pts)
local peritonitis (20 pts)
local.abscess (7pts)
diffuse peritonitis (9 pts)
4. The overall mortality rate was about 4%:
5. The leukocyte count elevation was not so prominent as younger age group.
6. The most important factors for the higher mortality ¢¥rate was the perforation of the appendix.
